The lifesaving actions of a Cumbrian charity are the latest to receive help from a mother and daughter duo who have raised money for good causes for 25 years.

June Means, 81, and her daughter Jane Forster have handed over £5,168 to Blood Bikes Cumbria.

The Brampton duo have raised the money over the last 12 months selling Belgian chocolates, holding raffles and hosting popular craft fairs.

June said: "It is 25 years this year that we've been doing this.

"We started off doing it for the Cumberland Infirmary's renal unit. We did that for many years. My father had renal failure.

"Three years ago we started doing it for different causes, Hospice at Home and the Great North Air Ambulance and this year the Blood Bikes."

The mother and daughter pair host an annual craft fair on the third Sunday of October at Eden Golf Club; it is one of their biggest events of the year.

It sees all manner of goods sold including cards and jewellery.

Blood Bikes provide out-of-hours transport 365 days of the year.

They transport urgently needed blood, drugs, human tissue and other medical requirements between hospitals and blood transfusion banks.

The bikes are all ridden by volunteers.

The charity also supplies the Great North Air Ambulance with fresh blood for their blood on board service every day of the week regardless of weather conditions.
