£1,000 bill for wrecking Carlisle hotel bedroom

A MAN must pay nearly £1,000 after a hotel room was wrecked.
Liam Hetherington, 23, booked a room at the County Hotel on Botchergate in Carlisle city centre for two nights last November, a court heard.
But staff received complaints from other residents about noise and shouting on the second night.
Carlisle Magistrates’ Court was told a member of staff went to the room at about 5am and found items damaged, including a bed, a television and a picture.
Hetherington, of Semple Road, Harraby, Carlisle, who pleaded guilty to causing damage, had left.
Geoff Lockerbie, in mitigation, told the court that Hetherington booked the room for some friends and two women to use.
He said he was not behind the damage but admitted it was his responsibility and had offered to pay compensation to the hotel.
District Judge Gerald Chalk gave Hetherington a one-year conditional discharge and ordered him to pay the hotel £981 compensation.
He must also pay a £15 victim surcharge.
