THE search for a new Cumbrian headteacher has been put on hold.

William Howard School, in Brampton, announced in July that Lorrayne Hughes was moving to become executive headteacher and chief executive officer for William Howard Trust.

This meant it was looking to recruit a new headteacher.

A letter from trust board chairman Martin Simpson was sent to all parents last week.

In it he wrote: "Following due consideration we will not be moving forward with this recruitment process at this time. As a result Domenic Volpe will remain as the interim Head of School.

"We will be looking to revisit this early in the spring term and I will keep you updated."

The letter adds: "We are confident this is the right decision at this time and the school will continue to move forward delivering the very best for all our students.

"Mrs Hughes in her new role as executive headteacher, will continue to work closely with William Howard School."
