A gang of yobs ambushed a bus, smashing a window as it waited at a terminus.
The vehicle, a Stagecoach service bus on route 76, was at Briar Bank in Belah, Carlisle, when a gang began hurling stones.
A nearside window towards the rear of the bus was smashed.
There were no passengers on board and the driver was unhurt.
An investigation to trace those responsible is underway.
Police say a gang of about six “young males” were behind the attack at 7.20pm on Saturday.
Officers want to talk to anyone who may have seen the incident or has any information relating to it.
Matt Cranwell, of Stagecoach, said: “The bus was at the terminus of the route, waiting to go back to Durranhill. “We don’t believe there were any passengers on board. The driver was fine. “Thankfully, this sort of incident is rare but we have reported it to the police.”
Saturday’s was the second attack on a bus in Carlisle in two days.
On Thursday, a window on a vehicle was damaged as it travelled in the Newtown Road and Port Road area of the city.
Three youths – all wearing dark clothing – were responsible and ran off through the nearby industrial estate.
Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact police on its 101 non-emergency number or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
