A FURNESS artist created a powerful painting for last night's big fight.

Richard T Slone, who hails from Newton, is the official artist for the boxing match in Las Vegas between Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao.

For the fight, the US-based painter has produced a vibrant acrylic on canvas.

A copy of it is on the cover of the The Ring magazine.

Speaking to the Evening Mail ahead of the fight, which Hatton lost, Mr Slone, 34, said: “I’m really pleased with the piece, it’s had a great reception.

“It’s very exciting.

“Ricky and Manny have both signed pieces."

Mr Slone exhibited his artwork at the MGM Grand, where the fight took place.

He is the official artist of the International Boxing Hall of Fame and has become one to the most sought-after artists of his era.

He was the official artist of De La Hoya vs Pacquiao, Hatton vs Malignaggi and many more big fights in the last decade. Owners of his originals include Donald Trump, Nelson Mandela, Hugh Hefner and Muhammad Ali.
