The Happy Mondays are returning to Cumbria later this year.

The band is heading to Carlisle as a part of its Thirtieth Anniversary Twenty-Four Hour Party People Greatest Hits Tour on Thursday, November 30.

Jonathan Higgins, arts, entertainment and events manager at The Sands Centre, said he was looking forward to a "cracking night."

"It’s great to see the Manchester music scene enjoying such a big revival," he added.

The Happy Mondays bridged the Manchester independent rock music scene of the late 1980s and pioneered the UK’s emerging rave scene, drawing their influence from acid house, soul and psychedelia to create the "Madchester" sound.

Their commercial peak led from the album releases Bummed and Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches, with the latter going platinum in the UK.

In January 2012, Shaun Ryder announced that the band was to return with the original line-up including himself, Paul Ryder, Gary Whelan, Rowetta, Mark Day, Paul Davis and Mark Berry.

Tickets are available from 10am on Friday from the Sands' box office on 01228 633766 or online at www.thesandscentre.co.uk
