History: The pub is a traditional fishing hotel that was converted into a pub in the early 1980s when the Black Bull pub (an former State Management pub) next door closed. It was taken over by brothers Michael and Alan Collinson in 2010.
The Fetherston Arms won Solway Camra Pub of the Year 2014 and has just won Solway Camra Pub of the Season Spring 2017.

Style of food: Traditional British pub food. The pub is particularly noted for their home-made pies.

Menu: Starters include chef’s soup – home-made soup with crusty bread roll (£4.60); beer battered cod goujons served with sweet chilli dipping sauce and rocket garnish (£5.95); black pudding, haggis and quail’s egg – stacked on top of each other and finished with an apple sauce and home-made scotch quail’s egg (£6.70); garlic bread slices – baked in the oven and topped with melted Cheddar and served with a home-made garlic dip (£4.35).
Mains include home-made steak, mushroom and Theakstons ale pie – individually home-made in shortcrust pastry and served with a jug of gravy, fresh steamed vegetables and a choice of potato (£11); home-made seafood bake – salmon, smoked cod, haddock and prawns cooked in a creamy sauce and topped with herb crusted mash (£11.50); hot chicken and bacon salad – with salmon, smoked cod, haddock and prawns cooked in a creamy sauce and topped with herb crusted mash (£9.95); 10oz sirloin steak – fresh from Cranstons, cooked to your liking and served with beer battered onion rings, grilled mushroom and tomato, salad and home-made chips (£17.95); classic macaroni cheese (£10.50).
The Sunday roast is also very popular, with a choice of four meats and priced at £10.50. Most Sundays are very busy so booking is definitely advised.
Puddings change daily but there is always home-made sticky toffee pudding (£4.95) and an Appleby creamery cheeseboard served with port (£8) and a selection of English Lakes ice cream (£3.50 for three scoops).

In their own words: “We aim to serve great quality, home-cooked food at fair prices using locally-sourced produce. We have a friendly welcoming atmosphere and the pub is well patronised by both locals and tourists alike.
“Our real ale is mainly sourced from local breweries, including Allendale, Tirril, Hesket Newmarket, Fell Brewery, Cross Bay etc. We also sell locally-brewed lagers and traditional hand-pulled cider.
“In winter we have a pool team and a darts team which helps to keep the pub at the heart of the community.”
