A stage version of the hit movie Dirty Dancing is coming to Cumbria, hot on the heels of a staging of Footloose .

Footloose comes to The Sands Centre in March and Dirty Dancing follows in October.

Dirty Dancing ‘The Classic Story On Stage’ has become a worldwide phenomenon, with productions staged everywhere from Australia to South Africa, Hong Kong to (most of) Europe, consistently breaking box office records.

The 2016 UK tour comes to Carlisle from October 24-29.

The classic story of Baby and Johnny was a monster hit in cinemas in 1987, starring the late Patrick Swayze opposite Jennifer Grey, and featuring hit songs such as Hungry Eyes , Do You Love Me? and the one everyone knows – because it was in the charts for so long – The Time Of My Life .

It’s set in the summer of 1963, with 17-year-old Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman about to learn some major lessons in life, as well as a thing or two about dancing.

On holiday in New York’s Catskill Mountains with her older sister and parents, Baby shows little interest in the resort activities, and instead discovers her own entertainment when she stumbles upon the staff quarters when an all-night dance party is in full swing.

Mesmerised by the raunchy dance moves and the rhythms, Baby can’t wait to be part of the scene, especially when she sees the resort dance instructor, Johnny Castle.

The latest version of the stage production is already on the road – in Milan in July, packing out the 15,000-seat Roman Arena in Verona.

It will play a season in Rome this autumn before heading out on a major Italian tour, then after a series of dates in China, Belgium and Korea, the new UK production will open at the Blackpool Opera House next August.

Jessie Hart stars as Baby Houseman with Lewis Kirk taking on the Swayze role as Johnny Castle, one of the most iconic roles in popular culture.

Lewis has previously been on tour across the UK in Hairspray .

Tickets are on sale for both shows.

Tickets for Dirty Dancing range from £36.50 to £44.50.

Tickets for Footloose , which is on from March 21-26, are priced from £19.50 to £31.50 (plus booking fee), available from www.the sandscentre.co.uk or by calling 01228 633766
