Breeders bring home prize

AT THE annual show and sale of ewes and gimmers at Skipton Auction Mart, Cumbrian breeders Alan and Fiona Alderson took one of the top prizes.

There were more than 4,000 Swaledales sold on Saturday for an overall average of £116.87 per head, £21.70 down on 2011.
Buyers were more selective.
Mr and Mrs Alderson, of Barras Farm, Kirkby Stephen, took more than 80 beasts to the sale. A pen of 10 gimmer shearlings took first prize in class and sold for £190 per head to Messrs Raine and Davidson, also of Kirkby Stephen.
Another two pen of theirs sold for £215 and £195 each.
