An enthusiastic supporter of the young farmers movement in Cumbria has been awarded the Blamire Medal.
Jim Hardy, of Whitrigg House, Crosby-on-Eden, was selected for the medal for his services to Cumberland agriculture.
He will receive the medal from Blamire trustee Thomas Fisher at tomorrow’s young farmers’ northern area field day at Sorrowstones Farm, Santon, in west Cumbria.
Mr Hardy has long supported young farmers and has been very involved with the Brampton Club.
Nick Utting, from the Blamire Trust, said: “Jim is a great example of how farmers in Cumbria have developed their interest in conservation and show how farming can work hand-in-hand with the environment.”
Prince Charles presented a Blamire medal to his friends Joe and Hazel Relph to recognise their commitment to hill farming on a visit to Cumbria last month.
They were recognised for their promotion of Herdwick lamb on their Borrowdale valley hill farm.
For more information about the trust, contact secretary Nick Utting on 01228 523034.
The prestigious Blamire award is presented to those who excel in the field of agriculture and in its associated industries.
The Young Farmers field day starts at 10am tomorrow and 1,000 people are expected to attend.
The event has been organised by Drigg YFC and the chairman is Gemma Baker.Among the competitions will be chicken trussing, fish filleting and sheep net setting.
