A woman who caused a public nuisance by climbing up scaffolding and threatening to kill herself has appeared back in court for sentence.
Sandra Beattie, 47, from Vasey Crescent in the Warwick Road area of Carlisle, admitted the offence in Harraby on October 8 when she was up before Carlisle magistrates last week.
The case was adjourned for sentence to allow the magistrates to see probation reports.
The court heard at the latest hearing how a workman on the roof behind the shops in Petteril Bank Road saw Beattie climbing a ladder onto the scaffolding.
John Moran, prosecuting, told magistrates the man tried to stop her but was unable to do so and helped her onto a wooden platform for her own safety.
The man called the police but they were also unable to get her down.
Fire officers were called in and tried to get her down with a harness and rope but she struggled and became aggressive.
She was eventually brought down on a turntable ladder.
Mr Moran said that during police interview Beattie said she went up the scaffolding to kill herself.
She admitted she was an alcoholic and was drunk on the day of the incident.
He told the court that emergency services were at the scene for almost an hour and part of the road had to be closed.
Margaret Payne, defending, told the court Beattie was extremely embarrassed. She was a vulnerable woman with health issues who was now receiving help for her drinking.
After consideration of probation reports Beattie was given a community order for one year and told to attend an alcohol treatment programme.
