Two small children were rescued by firefighters after they became locked in a car.
The youngsters, aged four years old and six months, had been accidently locked in the car by their mother at Whinlatter Road, Whitehaven, yesterday afternoon.
Crews smashed the window of the vehicle to get to the children.
A witness said the youngsters were “calm throughout the scene” before being reunited with their family.
The crew, called to the incident at 2.38pm, returned to their station at 4.20pm.
Keith Opie, group manager at Cumbria Fire Service, said the mother, who inadvertently locked the car, did “everything right” after realising what had happened.
“She called the emergency services straightaway,’’ he said. “We asked if she could contact the garage, who could get into the car without damaging it, but that wasn’t possible in the circumstances.
“Subsequently, we broke the cheapest window with the minimal of distress. It was a controlled situation.’’
