A taxi driver was subjected to a road rage and potential race hate attack in Carlisle, police say.
He also had the keys pulled out of the ignition of his vehicle and thrown down a street by another motorist.
Police investigating the attack today
The incident happened on St Nicholas Street, near the Golden Lion pub, at about 1.15am on Friday.
A spokesman said: “The driver was verbally abused with racist language by a man who had done a u-turn in a dark coloured Ford from Botchergate.
“He jumped out of the car, approached the male taxi driver and shouted at him.
“The offender also removed the keys from the ignition of the taxi and threw them down the street. These were handed back to the taxi driver by a passing pedestrian.”
Anyone who witnessed the attack – or has any information about the person responsible – can contact PC Michael Jenkinson at Carlisle’s Citadel police station on 0845 3300247. Details can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
