Carlisle United boss Greg Abbott to mix it up in Cumberland Cup
Last updated at 11:54, Tuesday, 19 February 2013
Carlisle United will field a blend of experienced pros and talented kids in tonight’s Cumberland Cup quarter-final with Carlisle City.
Boss Greg Abbott is expected to treat the tie as a reserve game and run the rule over a host of his fringe players at Brunton Park.
That is likely to see involvement for the likes of Brad Potts, Mark Beck and Dave Symington, the home-grown youngsters who have broken into the first-team this season.
Older players who are currently on the fringe of the side, such as Adam Collin and Peter Murphy, could also get 90 minutes under their belts.
United are bidding to win the county cup for the third successive year, after final victories against Netherhall and Harraby in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
Carlisle’s team in last season’s final included Mark Gillespie, who is now their first-choice keeper, and striker Paddy Madden, now Yeovil’s prolific 18-goal marksman.
Kick-off tonight is 7pm with entry £2 for adults and £1 concessions.
