News sales boss for software company

Penrillian, the mobile software and applications specialist, has appointed Ian Hetherington to the new role of head of sales and marketing.
The company, based at Clint Mill, Cornmarket, Penrith, works with mobile operators, handset manufacturers and financial services organisations – including the likes of Vodafone and BlackBerry – to produce software that meets their requirements.
Innovations include phones that can understand dictation, act as remote video cameras, do secure internet banking, act as GPS satellite-tracking devices and download entire books.
Mr Hetherington joins from Niche Computer Systems in Blackburn.
He said: “The mobile software industry is growing rapidly and the work that is done at Penrillian has a real impact on people’s day-to-day lives. The Penrillian team is highly technically skilled with a great sense of pride in the work they do and I am looking forward to taking their expertise to a wider market.”
The business was founded by Charles Weir in 2000, ho was instrumental in the development of the world’s first smartphone, the Ericsson R380, in the late 1990s.
