The awards recognise businesses in the UK and Ireland which have demonstrated particular success in China and Hong Kong.

DMACK is shortlisted for the ‘Rising Star’ award, for innovative businesses that have opened operations in China in the last five years and demonstrated entrepreneurial flair.

The company was set up in 2006 by Dick Cormack, a former rally driver and motorsport product development manager at Pirelli, initially to design and produce high-performance motorsport tyres.

These are designed at DMACK’s offices at Kingstown, and manufactured by the Shandong Yongtai Chemical Group in Shandong Province, China.

DMACK introduced a range of technical processes and quality checks to bolster the production process.

Mr Cormack, DMACK managing director, said: “With a huge number of UK companies now boasting manufacturing operations in China, it means a great deal for DMACK to be shortlisted as a finalist in these prestigious awards.”

DMACK was selected in 2011 as one of two manufacturers – the other was Michelin – authorised to supply tyres to the World Rally Championship.

Its success in rally competition spawned a dealer network covering more than 70 countries and last year the firm launched a range of consumer road tyres.

It expects to produce 200,000 tyres this year, up from 70,000 in 2013.

Mr Cormack added: “Through our participation and success in the World Rally Championship, we’ve helped to showcase the quality manufacturing offered in China.

“After recent investment, the consumer side of our business is now set for significant growth and production of road and truck tyres is fully underway.”

The award winners will be announced on Wednesday, November 26.
