Cumbrian Cottages, the Carlisle-based holiday-lettings business, has been sold to the owners of the self-catering operator Hoseasons.
The American company Wyndham Worldwide acquired Cumbrian Cottages from Castleacre Agencies of Leeds through its Wyndham Vacation Rentals subsidiary.
Cumbrian Cottages has more than 2,500 holiday homes throughout the Lake District, Northumberland, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Wales and Scotland. The deal was one of three acquisitions announced by Wyndham Vacation Rentals – the others are in the US.
Geoff Ballotti, of Wyndham, said: “The acquisition of Oceana, Kaiser and Cumbrian Cottages significantly enhances the leisure accommodations we offer in popular vacation destinations.”
Cumbrian Cottages was set up in the 1990s by husband and wife David and Julia Hogarth who previously ran nine Spar shops in Carlisle and Longtown.
They sold the company in 2003 to Peter Durbin, a Leeds accountant and businessman, for an undisclosed sum understood to be in the region of £2 million.
