Penrith and Border MP aims to launch investment fund

Cumbrian MP Rory Stewart wants to launch a fund that he believes could lever more investment into business in Cumbria.
Mr Stewart is optimistic the fund would be a major support, especially to smaller firms in rural areas.
The Penrith and the Border politician has already held talks with company bosses, finance experts, the voluntary sector and local government to highlight his plans.
Through the Cumbria Business Finance Network, which he has also started, the Conservative has launched the Cumbria Business Investment Fund, an online network.
The views of those involved will shape the fund – with the aim of funding the best match between unfulfilled financing needs and potential funding sources, Mr Stewart said.
He added: “The Business Finance Network will play an important role in helping us to understand the genuine needs of the sorts of businesses that characterise rural Cumbria and the ways in which the broader community may be able to play a role in providing support.
“I would encourage any small business which has experienced financing difficulties, or any investor with an interest in the local economy, to share their views.
“Your feedback will be critical to the design of the Business Investment Fund which we hope may be feasible to launch later in the year.”
