Stobart Group chairman Andrew Tinkler has netted almost £1 million by selling part of his shareholding in the business.

An official statement from Stobart Group revealed that Mr Tinkler sold 824,939 shares last month JAN at a price of £1.04 a share.

Even after the disposal he retains 28,476,811 shares, which represents 8.27 per cent of Stobart’s share capital.

Stobart Group can trace its roots back to the 1970s when the business began as an offshoot of an agricultural contracting business in Hesket Newmarket.

In was acquired by WA Developments (International), a company partly owned by Mr Tinkler, in 2003 and became a listed company in 2007 following a reverse takeover of the property and transport group Westbury.

Two years ago it sold a majority stake in the Eddie Stobart road haulage business to concentrate on in its other interests including aviation, warehousing and biomass.

The aviation interests include Carlisle Airport, where Stobart Group hopes to start scheduled passenger flights to London Southend, Belfast and Dublin this year.
