Carlisle-based company H&H Group has been announced as the charity auction connected to the Go Herdwick trail.

The firm will handle the sale of brightly decorated life-size models of Herdwick sheep and lambs.

These were each individually decorated by local artists and put on display at Rydal, Grasmere, Ambleside, Keswick and Windermere during the last four months.

They were created for the Calvert Trust, which provides adventurous holidays for disabled people, to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

“The Calvert Trust is a wonderful charity that has been working in the Lake District for over 40 years now,” said Brian Richardson, chief executive of the H&H Group.

“The auction will without a doubt be one of the most spectacular sheep sales that anyone, anywhere has ever seen and I am very much looking forward to it.”

Money raised at the auction will be used to fund the redevelopment of Old Windebrowe – a farmhouse near Keswick – to make it suitable for stroke survivors.

A viewing of the sheep will be held at the Rheged Centre, near Penrith, from September 22-28.

The auction is due to take place on October 8, at the Low Wood Bay Hotel, Windermere.
