Pizza chain Domino’s has narrowed its search for a second outlet in Carlisle.

The firm, which has had a branch in London Road since 2005, said in January it was looking to open a second outlet.

Now it has narrowed the search to Kingstown and is prepared to pay an £8,000 ‘finder’s fee’ if it can secure a suitable site.

It is looking for “highly-visible” premises, with 1,100sq ft of floor space, at least 15ft of frontage, and parking.

The site should have planning consent for A5 hot-food takeaway use or at least potential for change of use.

American-owned Domino’s is expanding aggressively. Its first UK outlet, in Luton, opened in 1985.

There are now nearly 800 in the UK and Ireland, and it aims to have 1,200 by 2021.

Three so far are in Cumbria – Carlisle, Barrow and Kendal – plus a production facility in Penrith.

Domino’s has said previously that it is looking to open in Workington, Whitehaven and Penrith.

Meanwhile, Majestic Wine has dropped its search for a site in Penrith.

It targeted the town following the closure of Penrith's only independent wine retailer, The Wine House, in September last year.

But chief executive Rowan Gormley said in June that he wanted to limit openings to 20 to 30 locations “that can deliver a good return”.
