A hair salon has moved to a new Carlisle city centre location after a period of major success.

Studio 32, which was on the corner of Lonsdale Street and St Paul’s Square, has moved to Chapel Street and is now known as Chapel Hair and Beauty.

Its old premises have already been taken on and is now a barber shop called Groomfellas.

Debra Stubbs, one of Chapel’s joint owners, said: “A new girl came to work for us and it [the old premises] was just too small for us – we had been there for nearly four years.”

The new salon is in a building formerly occupied by Struts and has beauty room facilities.

This is the first time the business has has a dedicated area for this as well as space for haircuts.

Mrs Stubbs works at the salon with her business partner Kerry Dempsey as well as other staff.

She said: “It (the old premises) was our first salon together.”

Groomfellas is the first joint venture for its owners Katy Bradley and Rachael Hope.

Both have experience in barbering and met when they were both working in Dapper in Castle Street, Carlisle city centre.

Miss Bradley originally trained as a hairdresser but has a preference for working as a barber.

“I have always liked doing men’s hair,” she said. “There are a lot more different styles.”

Miss Hope added: “We take our time and give a nice hair cut, men like a lot of time spent on their hair as well.

“When I first started there wasn’t much male grooming but now you have men going to sunbeds and the gym. They take care of themselves more.”

The salon has been decorated with posters from Hollywood gangster films and also has its own logo, featuring a graphic of a dog in a bowler hat.
