BARROW PROPERTY TYCOON STRUCK OFF BY TRADE WATCHDOG

A MAJOR investor in Barrow’s booming property market has a blot on his record, the Evening Mail can disclose today.
Multi-millionaire Brendan Kiely has been struck off by Britain’s leading trade watchdog for the housebuilding industry.
The National House Building Council said the action was taken “for disciplinary reasons”.
Mr Kiely, who owns the Royal Hotel on Barrow Island and a string of rented houses in the town, is one of a new wave of investors attracted by plans to develop a marina on the docks.
Just over five years ago he and one of his seven brothers, Daniel, were equal shareholders in Kiely Brothers Ltd.
But the company was struck off the NHBC’s register of approved builders and developers after just four years.
In a statement, an NHBC spokeswoman said: “We can confirm Kiely Brothers Ltd were registered with NHBC from October 28, 1994, until their deletion for disciplinary reasons on November 16, 1998.
“Brendan Anthony Kiely and Daniel Patrick Kiely are identified by Companies House as the only two directors and equal shareholders in Kiely Brothers Ltd from September 1, 1994.”
The NHBC spokeswoman refused to go into detail why they were struck off but explained all new applicant builders are put through a technical and financial vetting.
