£500,000 store set to open in village near Carlisle

A new Co-op store is to open near Carlisle following a £500,000 development.
The former Grave Hill Court site, at Townhead Road in Dalston, is being turned into the food store and should open at the end of March.
All staff from the current store in the village will transfer to the new one.
Duncan Maurer, operations manager for The Co-operative, said it would bring a “larger, brighter store” and improved range of produce.
“The Co-operative is proud of its record of operating at the heart of many communities,” he said.
“We look forward to continuing to meet the community’s daily food shopping needs and make our contribution to local life.”
The Co-operative, which has nearby stores in Morton and on Wigton Road, both in Carlisle, is owned by its members, who receive a share of profits, which they can choose to keep or to donate to local good causes.
The food chain aims to open more than 300 new stores across the UK over the next three years.

The ancient co-op was great with its wrap around counter, in the 60s on the corner of the square, round the corner was ronnie at the P.O. I am sure the new one is just as good.

With the prices they charge it wont be long before they recoupe their investment. The Coop, especially the ones where they hold a monopoly like Dalston, are ridiculously overpriced.
