Convenient site
HAS April Fool’s Day come early this year? We refer to the front page article (Courant, January 13) , about proposals for the bus station and re-siting of Benson’s Monument and park gates.

A FRESH appeal is under way to allow holders of concessionary bus passes to travel at any time.

End the farce and keep bus station where it is
THE whole situation about new arrangements for buses in Hexham has become farcical (Courant, January 13).

Electric future
I HELPED out with the recent survey of opinion in Hexham about moving the bus station from its present central position. Door-to-door I found almost unanimous opposition to the idea.

Reorganisation
THE pointless reorganisation of Tesco’s Hexham store clinched it for us. In the midst of the chaos, we were reassured it would be better next week, to which my Dad replied: “Too right, we’re going to Asda!”

Unique setting
MRS J. Smith’s comments about the facilities in Hexham (Courant Letters, January 13), highlights the need for vigilance in protecting the fabric of the town.

Independence
ISN’T it interesting to hear all the rhetoric from Scottish Nationalists and UK MPs about the pros and cons of Scottish independence? Nobody seems ready yet to ask the English people how we feel about it.

Festive cheer
ON behalf of Tynedale Lions, I would like to thank all those who supported our fund raising efforts this Christmas. Thanks to the clement weather our Santa Sleigh was able, for the first time for three years, to visit all the usual towns and villages in Tynedale.

Crazed ambition
WE thoroughly enjoyed another brilliant spoof about moving Benson’s Monument. Although earlier than April 1, perhaps Friday 13th was also appropriate (Courant, January 13).

Expensive folly
IF Hexham bus station were to be re-sited (Courant, January 13), passengers would still choose to board buses where the present bus station is, in the town centre.

Ongoing battle to save the reds
IT was interesting to read about the small number of reds that have returned to Slaley and Hexham area (Courant, January 6).

Guard role is vital for train service safety
AS a former train guard Roy Bell should get his facts right and read his timetable properly (Courant Letters, January 13).

Bus route changes will ruin landmark
LOOKING down Beaumont Street from Colonel Benson to the Abbey is one of the best views in Hexham.

Bus route
I READ with disbelief the proposal to route buses up the congested Battle Hill and around a roundabout at the top of Beaumont Street (Courant, January 13).

Parking rules
CAN you please make the point that the blue badge scheme available to disabled people applies to the individual to whom the badge is issued and not the vehicle in which they are travelling?

Vital services
I WAS very concerned to learn that Northumberland County Council is now considering merely having a bay at the side of the road instead of a bus station to accommodate local buses (Courant, January 13).

Ignored opinions
IT must be two years since I and others wrote, objecting strongly to the plans to relocate Hexham bus station.

Foolish idea
OVER the years the Hexham Courant has published several outrageous stories which turned out to be elaborate April Fools.
