Vintage cars took to the hills this weekend as the Lake District welcomed a host of classic models.

Over 100 cars took part in the Vintage Sports Car-club Lakeland Trials, which is for owners of classic cars built before 1931.

And enthusiasts had polished up a whole host of models for the race, including Bugattis, Triumphs, MGs, Aston Martins, Bentleys and Rolls Royces.

Competitors from all over the country drove their pre-war cars to Cumbria to compete in 14 competitive trials around the Keswick area on Saturday.

And the most challenging circuit of the day took the drivers through the extensive quarry roads around Honister Slate mine.

The cars raced up the Honister quarry road into the foothills of the Fleetwith Pike mountain, standing 1200ft above Buttermere, where the racers did a lap before coming back down.

Motoring enthusiasts descended on the Honister Slate mine to get an unrivalled view of the action.
