Chris Scott came out of match retirement to net 104lb of carp in Carlisle and District Coarse Angling Club's pairs trophy – and still ended up a loser.

Fishing eight metres of pole with a 16 elastic to 4½lb line and a size 12 hook baited with paste or pellet Chris landed a carp a cast for the first four hours of the match.

But his team-mate Dave Gillies drew a peg with no weed or features and consequently fewer fish. This meant the winners were Pete Wilson and Alan Walsh.

Pete won his section and with Alan joint second in his they earned a total of 3½ points and landed a combined weight of 127lb of carp caught on paste.

Runners up were Neil Rudd and Warren Richardson.

Neil was third in his section and Warren was joint second, the pair earning a total of 5½ points and landing a combined weight of 114lb carp caught on pellet and paste.

There was consolation for Gillies in Friday evenings CADCAC Golden Peg match at Crofton Lake which he won with 16lb 11oz of bream and skimmers from peg 39.

Second was Warren Richardson with a single bream weighing 4lb 14oz.

One up and coming young angler making an impact on the Thursday night league at Carlton Hill Fishery is Josh Hamilton aged 16.

Josh who works in Geoff Wilson's Practical Gunsmiths won again last Thursday landing 18 lb 12 oz of small carp; his fifth match win this season.

In second place was Russell Collins with 6lb 7oz and third was Mally Miller 6lb. Josh is now in pole position to win the league, only Mally Miller can catch him.

Eighteen anglers fished last Tuesday's King of Whins league match at Whins Pond near Penrith.

Match organiser Glen Martin drew peg 21 again and fished just three or four rod lengths out. Just after six o'clock a carp took his boilie and very quickly shed the hook.

He had to wait until just before the final whistle to land his only fish, a mirror carp of 12lb 4oz giving him ten points and first place for the third time in four weeks.

Ian Corri drew peg one and using the whip and maggot managed almost 200 silver fish weighing 11lb 7oz in just three hours and thirty minutes and stretched his lead at the top of the league.

Dave Wardman on peg 12 continued his best ever season finding two bream on the feeder. He used maggot at about 40 metres and weighed 10lb 4oz for third.

Tony Whear found a good bream and silver fish for 9lb 11oz and fourth.

Tim Gustard managed a single carp of 8lb 13oz for fifth and Eifion Harris had the best bream of the night weighing 8lb 2oz for sixth place. unday's float only match at Whins Pond achieved six double figure weights.

First was C. Balham with 20lb 10 oz, second was Graham Henton with 14lb 3oz and third was match organiser Jeff Whittle with 14lb exactly.

During the last week at Warwick Hall James Smith landed a fly- caught 12- pounder in the Rushes, T. Reynolds landed a 9 pounder in Crow Wood on a spinner and M. Stewart landed a seven-pounder in the House Pool using the same tactics.

Bob Todd from Brampton landed a 5lb grilse whilst spinning in the Gravel Bed and G. Mail employed the same method in the House Pool to land a 15-pounder.

On the lower river Eden Francis Wilson landed a 10lb salmon last week Francis was using an Autumn Boyo fly.
